Do you love music? MerleFest is a music festival for the whole family! Located on the Wilkes Community College Campus, MerleFest brings together musicians from all genres. You'll see everthing from bluegrass and country to polkas. Check them out online.

 

 

Wilkes Heritage Museum

Wilkes Heritage MuseumWilkes Heritage Museum, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization formed in 1968. The Wilkes Heritage Museum, Inc. is responsible for operating and maintaining the Old Wilkes Jail (c. 1859), Robert Cleveland Log Home (c. 1779), and the Wilkes Heritage Museum (former Wilkes County Courthouse, c. 1902).

The Wilkes Heritage Museum consists of a self-guided tour featuring exhibits including early settlement, medicine, military history, moonshine, and early stock-car racing.

Guided tours of the Old Wilkes Jail and Robert Cleveland Log Home are given at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm Tuesday- Saturday. Special programs are also offered; call for availability.

Candlelight Ghost Tours is located in Wilkesboro, North Carolina at the foot of the Blueridge Mountains. Folkore and ghost tales abound in this area, passed down from one generation to the next. Join us and walk amid the history of a proud mountian peoples as we regale you with stories of the past - well, maybe some folks aren't as "past" as we'd think.

You might just hear the footsteps of the long dead Tom Dooley in the jail cell he once occupied or you might spy the earthbound spirit of the little girl killed by runaway horses. It's all here, just waiting for you.

Fishing, boating, swimming, picnics, etc. all await you and your family/friends at W. Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir. This earth dam protects down river cities from flooding and provides water, recreation and wildlife protection to our county. Run by the US Army Corps of Engineers, the reservoir is the perfect place to spend a lazy summer day. Plenty of walking and biking trails as well as picnic shelters.
